We have had a few emails, a few hundred messages & a lot of people in general asking us how the collaboration with Diana Ross came about & how the project unfolded.
Last year I had the pleasure of working with Diana Ross. Yes you read that correctly, Diana Ross! Having spent my career inspired by music & constantly captivated by different genres, themes & crafts I was over the moon to have the Diana Ross project land on my desk.
Every year has its highlight consisting of certain projects, however the first 12-months at Ben Wild Studios have been like no other job. The client base has grown at an extraordinary speed & projects for the likes of Diana Ross have been the tip of the iceberg!
This project started like every other, a sketch. This sketch then translated into an animation test in which I worked with the lead comp & motion designer ‘Andy Horan’ as director. He took our hand animated moments & added them to the overall look, feel & flow of Diana Ross’s Thank You music video.
Once the style was signed off & the shots agreed. I got to work with hand animating the moments, shots & little bits of magic which made up the handmade moments. This project was particularly great because of the vast nature of each shot. I got to animate everything from a front flip to a skateboarder heading for a huge jump off a halfpipe. Each of these moments had charm, time & magic applied to them.
One of the most unique elements of this project was the fact the animation was completed at 24(fps) this ensured the finished product not only epic but the animation was crystal clear & smooth as f*ck.
